Ahimsa: Living Without Harming, Living in Peace

Discover the principle of Ahimsa, the non-violence of yoga, and how to apply it to your daily life to cultivate inner peace, compassion, and emotional balance.

The first step of yoga is kindness

Ahimsa, one of the principles of the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali, means "non-violence."
But it is not just about not harming others: it is also about not hurting ourselves with harsh thoughts, demands, or words directed at ourselves.

Practicing Ahimsa means choosing calm over reaction, understanding over judgment.
It is looking with gentleness, listening with empathy, and speaking with respect.

Ahimsa in the body and the mind

When we force a posture or a situation, the body and soul tense up.
Yoga teaches us to feel our limits without crossing them, to breathe where there is resistance, and to remember that strength can also be gentle.

Guided practice: inner kindness

  1. Close your eyes and place one hand on your heart.
  2. Inhale and mentally repeat: "I treat myself with respect."
  3. Exhale and think: "I let go of the demands."
  4. Repeat several times until you feel relief.

"Ahimsa begins with oneself." — Patanjali

At EYO Yoga Madero, we cultivate the practice of yoga as a path of compassion.
Come discover that peace begins in the way you treat yourself each day.
