In the practice of yoga, energetic balance is essential for physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
One of the most important energy centers in this process is Svadhisthana, the second chakra, located in the sacral area, just below the navel. Its name means "one's own abode"; for Jung, it represents the beginning of psychic energy and the place where collective life unfolds.
Its energy is deeply connected to water, movement, creativity, and the ability to experience pleasure in life. When this chakra flows in harmony, we feel alive, expressive, and connected to our emotions.
The energy of Svadhisthana in our lives
Svadhisthana governs our emotions, our relationship with pleasure, and our ability to enjoy life without guilt. It is the center of sensuality, creativity, and joy.
"When this chakra is balanced, we allow ourselves to feel pleasure in every aspect of our lives: in art, in movement, in relationships, and in the simple experience of being present."
However, when it is blocked or out of balance, emotions such as guilt, fear of change, difficulty connecting with our feelings, or a sense of disconnection from creativity may arise. Tensions in the pelvic area, hormonal issues, or difficulties expressing one's own sensuality may also manifest.
How to activate Svadhisthana in your yoga practice
Yoga is a powerful tool for harmonizing the energy of Svadhisthana, allowing us to release repressed emotions and connect with our natural flow.
Some ways to work on this chakra during practice include:
- Asanas that mobilize the pelvic area, which stimulate the sacral region, releasing tension and allowing energy to flow more freely.
Here are some of them:
Baddha Konasana (Bound Angle Pose):

Utkata Konasana (Goddess Pose):

Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose):

Anjaneyasana (Crescent Moon Pose):

- Conscious breathing:
Pranayamas such as Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) or Bhastrika (breath of fire) can help release held-back emotions and bring greater balance to this energy center.
- Fluid movements:
Incorporating circular movements into your practice, such as spinal undulations or smooth transitions between poses, helps you connect with the fluidity of water, the element associated with this chakra.
- Meditation and visualization:
Spending a few minutes meditating on the color orange (the color of Svadhisthana), visualizing water flowing freely, or repeating affirmations like "I allow myself to fully enjoy life" or "My emotions flow freely" can strengthen your connection with this chakra.
The power of connecting with our second chakra
The balance of Svadhisthana allows us to feel in harmony with our body, our emotions, and our ability to create and enjoy. Through the practice of yoga, we learn to release blockages and embrace the energy of pleasure without guilt.
"When we flow with life instead of resisting it, we allow our creativity, sensuality, and enjoyment to become transformative forces on our path."
If you feel you need to reconnect with your vital energy, I invite you to include poses and exercises that work on this center in your practice.
Remember that yoga is a path of self-discovery, and every conscious breath is an opportunity to restore balance within yourself.
See you on the mat,
